Superior’s reforestation project takes root with aerial seeding

This spring, nearly 3 million jack pine seeds fell from the sky over the Superior National Forest, holding the promise of enhanced wildlife habitat and forest products in future years.

Regarding the cones opening to release the seeds, the cones wont open until they have cooled; thus not falling into the flames. Smart trees! I tested this out one fall in a wood stove in northern Ontario about 60 years ago.
