Trees and shrubs are now emerging from their dormant winter state and may require attention before the growing season gets into full swing.

However, done improperly, trimming and pruning can result in the disfigurement and premature death of an otherwise healthy tree. Hardwoods like oak, hickory and sugar maple should be minimally pruned, if at all. Any tall-growing tree, including tulip and sycamore, should not be planted near roads, sewer lines, sidewalks, buildings or power lines. Choosing the right tree for the right space can eliminate or reduce costly remedies later.
