New Year's resolutions for your trees

As I do at the beginning of each year, I ask my readers to make New Year’s resolutions regarding their trees. Some of these are redundant from previous years, but I believe they are important enough to repeat, particularly number one below.

1. I resolve not to murder my crape myrtle. I realize I put this in last year’s article, but continued crape myrtle abuse warrants my repetition. I continually see crape myrtles cut back to six or eight feet in height with nothing but a trunk and stubs for limbs. I don’t get it. Why would you do that to a perfectly good tree?
