Q: Will seeds of a hybrid tree grow a hybrid tree?

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Q: I have an Autumn blaze maple, which is a hybrid of a silver and a red maple. Recently, it has dropped seeds, and I would like to plant them. Since it is a hybrid, would I get the same tree from the planted seeds? I read somewhere that I would either get a red or silver maple. Just wanted to hear it from the professionals ;) thanks

A: I would start them in a seed tray with a soil medium. Most likely, you will obtain a strand of silver maples since that is the dominant species in this breeding process.
