Industry News: Leaf, Seed, and Flower Concerns

Q: Why has our pecan tree not dropped its leaves this fall?

Thursday, December 31, 2015

A: The tree holding leaves is most likely a result of some type of adverse weather during the fall season. Usually, a tree holding its leaves past fall is related to a early hard freeze that kills the leaves before the tree can separate the leaf from the twig (abscission). Trees may also hold leaves past fall if the trees are stressed from drought conditions as they are going into dormancy. Either way, your tree will be fine. It is mature, and Mother Nature has given it the tools necessary to cope with the ups and downs of midwestern weather.
