Ask a Consulting Arborist Q&A: Tree Appraisal

Q: Can the value of our excavated trees be appraised through photos?

Thursday, December 31, 2015

Q: Contractors were clearing a site on the property next door and removed six 15-foot-tall skyrocket junipers with an excavator. The trunks and roots were pulled out along with the trees, leaving no clear evidence that they ever existed. I have tried to estimate the replacement cost, but they are not sold at that height (at least not in my area).  Is it possible for the value of the trees to be assessed from photos?

A: Yes, it is possible to assess values of trees from photographs. I would recommend finding a Consulting Arborist who specializes in landscape appraisal to obtain values for the trees.
