Q: I have a very old hickory tree in my backyard in Tennessee. Even though most of the leaves are green, there are scattered segments of brown leaves and some limbs that appear dead throughout the summer. Is this a disease? I want to save this tree from dying. It is very tall and old. What should I do?

A: There are several insects and a few diseases that can cause the symptoms you describe. Unfortunately, there is not enough detail in your post to diagnose the problem. I recommend you call a local certified arborist who is skilled at diagnosing tree problems to assist you.
